I have been writing this column for over twenty-five years now and in order to better assist readers who are not students of astrology I offer some suggestions as to how to use the monthly summary.
Read the summary with your calendar that shows the whole month on one page. Read through the intro and make note of the days that I point out. Mark the new Moon and the full Moon. The days between the new Moon and the full Moon are when you generally want to start something that you want to grow. Do look at that Moon void chart and take a rest on those days. I have discovered that no matter what I plan, it turns out another way on a Moon void day. Anything you try to accomplish will turn out with unexpected results.
Make note of the three days before the new Moon. People usually get anxious during these days because the phone does not ring or they feel confused or simply nothing is happen. That is because it is wind down time before the new Moon. You will usually notice that the action of life picks up once the new Moon occurs. Also note the days that planets change directions, especially Mercury retrograde.
Hopefully these suggestions will give you a bit of a start to maneuvering through life with astrology.
I want a better life. You may have to move out.
May opens with us in the dark of the Moon. That is that last three days before the new Moon. It is difficult see our way in the darkness literally and figuratively. This is a time of completing projects. Those of us who want to start new projects during this time will be frustrated because the circumstances are not fertile to begin anew. People are often unavailable to take our calls. Do not chase after something which just cannot happen now.
In addition to the dark of the Moon, Mercury is sextile Mars in Gemini May 1. This is normally productive. However, at the same time Mercury is square Saturn showing stifling progress in the face of opposition from people and circumstances. At the same time May 2 Mercury is square Pluto bumping us up against the powers that be all the while Mercury is trine Jupiter. This is a time of progress but we have to get past the gatekeepers the don’t want us to succeed. The path will not be clear so just stall for a bit.
Once the New Moon occurs May 4 at 5:46 pm CDT in Taurus at 14 degrees, we can start over. This new Moon compels us to begin activities that add to our comfort and well being. This includes creating budgets and financial plans. Begin to save for that special goody you want. Open a bank account but wait to start that new business until after Jupiter goes direct August 11.
The lunar cycle culminates with the full Moon May 18 at 4:11 pm CDT in Scorpio at twenty-seven degrees. Scorpio rules things that we share. That includes intimacy, a bathroom, a checkbook, the children, and any other situation that requires cooperation. The full Moon in Scorpio is about concluding situations. Some of us will pay off bills some of us will end associations.
So the new Moon calls for beginnings that serve us and our needs while the full Moon says finish what is done. Hence in order to to be more comfortable we have to clear some space in our lives. Thus the title, I want a better life, you may have to move out. That includes people, possessions, and situations.
At the same time as the new Moon, we feel Mars in Gemini opposite Jupiter retrograde in Sagittarius. Mars and Jupiter at this angle compel us to go for what we want. Mars wants it his way and Jupiter is reinventing us in another way. Take action to get what you want especially if you are Gemini or Sagittarius. Remember to stay focussed as Mars in Gemini can jump from project to project.
Mars moves out of Gemini and through Cancer May 15/16 until July 1. Cancer is a moody sign so recognize that your moods are going to sway here and there. One day is sure to be a feast and the next can be a famine. Cancers are certainly more aggressive and sure footed. Fellow water signs Scorpio and Pisces can handle the extra confidence with greater ease while Capricorn must overcome blocks to your path. Likewise, Aries and Libra are tested by circumstances and people who do not support our ideas and plans.
Over in Capricorn, Saturn and Pluto, both retrograde, are hangin out with the South node of the Moon. This is a whole lot of energy in one spot of the zodiac. This is tough and these three are making us rethink our path. Situations that must change are accentuated. The full Moon eclipse July 16 adds more energy to this area of the zodiac. If you are not on at the path you are supposed to be on, life circumstances are going to pick you up and drop you off in a new place. If you want change these events give your self the fuel to change. Pay attention to what is going on around you.
The pace we have experienced calms a bit while Mercury moves through Taurus May 6 to 21. Our thoughts turn to what makes us feel secure both emotionally and financially. Events that make us feel unsure happen while under the influence of Venus square Saturn May 7. Mercury crossing Uranus in Taurus May 8 brings surprises to our serenity. At the same time the Sun sextile Neptune suggests we think about it all tomorrow.
Venus and Jupiter are trine May 9 which is just wonderful for just about anything, except Venus is square Pluto creating tension and jealousy. This could be a time of stranger danger so listen to your instincts.
The Sun in Taurus is trine Saturn early May 11. A slow and methodical approach works well now. Listen to the advice of someone with experience. That person knows what they are talking about. Later in the day the first quarter after the new Moon takes place. This is a time of tension and emotions building. Many of us, especially Leo and Taurus will break through barriers or break a dish. Try to avoid fussing and arguing with any member of the opposite sex.
Challenges become less as the Sun in Taurus is trine Pluto May 13. Mercury is trine Saturn May 16 and trine Pluto in Capricorn May 18. Work and and all kinds of business matters go well especially for Aries. During this time, we feel Venus in Aries sextile Mars (exact May 14). Our actions are quite productive. Venus crossing Uranus May 18 brings a stroke of luck or a loss something important in the moment. Listen to that voice in your head May 15 when Mercury is sextile Neptune.
Our thoughts become lighter and more social as the Sun and Mercury move into Gemini May 21and hold hands for the day. If you don’t have an event or party to attend, throw your own bash. Get out and mingle.
Mars in Cancer sextile Uranus in Taurus May 22 brings good times with people you love.
The last quarter of the Moon occurs in Pisces May 26. It is time to finish up stuff started at the new Moon. This can be confusing and many of us will not know what to do or which decision in best for us. Avoid arguing now if at all possible.
Mercury square Neptune has us confused and uncertain regarding other peoples’ motives May 29. Venus sextile Neptune May 30 brings romance for some of us. Others of us have so many opportunities we don’t know which to choose with Mercury opposite Jupiter.
Venus in Taurus trine Saturn retrograde in Capricorn brings stability on the last day of the month. While this is a great time for making long term plans, Saturn retrograde suggests we all take our time before committing to any person or course of actions. Take your time before signing on the dotted life. May is a time of seeking comfort, but whatever you seek will have a price to pay. That’s life here on earth.
